The Work in Haiti

Dear Ones, Beloved of the Lord,

There has been so much work that we have been doing over the last couple of years that I have not really had time to write about. This morning, in my spirit, I feel strongly that I should tell you of some of these things.

First, some background: When we first started working in Haiti, it was with an American Mission, Northwest Haiti Christian Mission. Several Canadian churches got together and built a pharmacy on their property in St. Louis du Nord. A much loved Canadian, Maureen, set up and ran the medical laboratory. Later, Maureen became the director of the pharmacy as well as the lab.

During all this time, we began growing in Canada, and were recognized as a charitable organization. It seemed natural to us to call ourselves by the same name, Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, adding Canada to the title. We never dreamed of doing anything else.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

I know that you talk to our Father regularly about the work that we do in Haiti. Thank you for doing this.

When we first came to Haiti, we were discouraged by the amount of work and resources we could pour into the work, and how big the needs remained when we went home. Some years ago, hoping for some kind of sustainable difference to be made in the country, I almost quit going to Haiti, because it seemed that the needs were greater than any effort could change.Read more »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Dear Ones, Beloved of the Lord,

Late on Thursday night, we had a little boy brought to us who was having extreme difficulty breathing. He was somewhere between three and five years old. His parents said he was five, but he really looked three.

The child was having so much trouble breathing, that under his ribs was sucking into a great hollow with every breath. And he was breathing more rapidly than I have ever seen a child breath. Each breath had almost a bark in it. Each was convulsive. Read more »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Attached is another photo. This is one of my patients who got up early, rose from sick bed, to dress as well as they could, to attend church this morning. Last night we talked about how a man went to see Jesus on a stretcher, carried by friends. When he could not get in the door, they climbed a roof with him and let him down through the roof.Read more »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Dear Ones, Beloved of the Lord,

Greetings in the precious Name of Jesus!

It has been almost an entire week since I have written to you to tell you of the things which we are doing here in Haiti. Please forgive me that I have not written more often. The days have flown by so fast, with so many things going on.
From Port au Prince, HaitI

Dear Ones, beloved of the Lord,

I am writing to tell you that Geoff and I have arrived in Port au Prince. In the morning we will go up to the north, to St. Louis du Nord, where we will prepare for the surgical team to come. Tonight, exhausted from airports and international travel, we have arrived at the MTI boarding house. MTI is a group who brings medical teams to Haiti. When cholera broke out in our area, and all our medical teams went home, MTI sent many missionaries to us to care for the sick. Here at their boarding house, we have running water, clean beds, and we had a good hot meal. In the morning, they will take Geoff and I, and all our luggage, boxes of medicine, and tents, out to the little airport where we will catch our plane to the north.

Many of you know that last week was the Feast of Trumpets, talked about in the Old Testament. Modern Jewish people call it Rosh Hoshanah, or the New Year. It is a holiday which the Lord commanded, when Israel would blow the trumpets of the tabernacle. Many Christians believe that this holiday foreshadows the time, when as First Thessalonians 4:15-17, when the Lord shall appear in the Heavens with the sound of the trumpet of God, and the shout of an archangel, and the dead in Christ shall be raised, and the believers alive on the earth will be caught up to be with them and Jesus forever. I remember my grandfather telling me stories of standing on a bridge on the Feast of Trumpets, waiting for the ‘Rapture’, and many believers have hoped with great joy that this year, this Rosh Hoshannah, would be a great time for Jesus to appear and take us Home.

But, here, in Haiti, things have a different flavour. Sitting around the supper table tonight, we were told of one of the buses that travel to the north.Read more »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Dear Ones, beloved of the Lord,

It has been a long time since I have written to you. I try not to bother you with many emails, and only write when I have new stories to tell you. However, one of the many jobs I had to do today, was to write out the answers to a company called Vita Health. Vita Health has very generously, through Health Partners International Canada, donated to us large quantities of acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and vitamins. We were sent a list of questions, and asked for some feed back.

While I was correcting all my typos, I was thinking that you might be interested to hear some of these things. It is not anything new – just the day to day work that goes on every day, here working alongside our dear Father, in Haiti. My answers are the ones in purple.

What are the main conditions treated with the medicines and/or supplements mentioned above? Read more »

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
